2024 ISOE International ALARA Symposium
October 2024 (Kyoto, Japan)
2024 ISOE International ALARA Symposium was held on 1-3 October 2024 in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, with attendance of 41 people from Japan, Canada, France, Hungary, Romania, and USA. The first two days were dedicated for paper presentations and discussions, and a technical tour to the Mihama Nuclear Emergency Assistance Center (M-NEACE) and the Tsuruga Power Station of the Japan Atomic Power Company (JAPC) was held on the last day.
The Symposium consisted of 20 papers and those papers were presented in 10 sessions. The participants shared/exchanged information throughout fruitful discussion during the symposium. At the end of Day 2, the distinguished the following two distinguished papers were selected.
– | “Improvement of radiation control operation,” UEDA Shunnosuke, Kashiwazaki Kariwa NPP of TEPCO, Japan |
– | “Radiation control in decommissioning of Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station,” KATSUMI Yasuhiro, Hamaoka NPP of Chubu EPC, Japan |
The technical tour to the M-NEACE Center and the Tsuruga Power Station was held on 3 October 2024. At the M-NEACE, the participants observed remote equipment such as robots, heavy machinery, and drones, as well as facilities for training on their operation and vehicles for transporting the equipment. At the Tsuruga Power Station, the participants were provided lectures on the current situation of nuclear development and nuclear power at Tsuruga Peninsula, the status of the Tsuruga Power Station, decommissioning activities at Unit 1 of the Tsuruga Power Station, and the safety measurements at the station. Then they moved to the site and toured the reactor buildings of Unit 1 and 2. The deputy directors and RP staff of the station accompanied the participants on the tour, explaining the equipment and answering the questions from the participants. After the tour, the participants had an active QA session with the JAPC. The attendees were very much interested in and satisfied with the tour.
