2005 ISOE Asian ALARA Workshop

2005 ISOE Asian ALARA Workshop
The first ISOE Asian ALARA Workshop, which was organized by JNES/ISOE-ATC, was held on November 9 (Wed.), 2005
in Omaezaki City, Shizuoka Prefecture where Hamaoka plant of Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. was located.
There were about 50 participants altogether, including those from Japan, who represented 10 utilities, the
Japan Atomic Energy Agency (Fugen Nuclear Power Station) and the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, and those from
abroad, 20 participants, who represented OECD/NEA, IAEA and 11 countries : France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden,
Finland, Russia, Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Korea.

Led by the team of Mr. Mizumachi, the chair-elect of the Steering Group
and Mr. Gagnon, the current chair, there were six presentations from Japan
after the representatives of North American and
European Technical Centers and Korea reported the outline situation of various
places and countries. These presentations were very interesting and the question
and answer was executed actively among the participants

The report presented by Mr. Kashimoto of Shikoku Electric Power Co., Inc. which was entitled “Measure to Reduce
Radiation Exposure during the RV Core Internals Replacement at Ikata Nuclear Power Station Unit-1” received the
invitation to be presented at the European Workshop which would be held in next March in Essen, Germany.
The participants visited Hamaoka Unit 5, an ABWR (advanced boiling water reactor),
the next day, and the voice of the surprise at the cleanness of the plant came out of participants.
