2023 ISOE ATC Information Exchange Meeting on Benchmarking for Radiation Protection



2023 ISOE ATC Information Exchange Meeting on Benchmarking for Radiation Protection was held from October 31 to November 2, 2023 at Shika Nuclear Power Station of Hokuriku Electric Power Co., Inc., and at Ikoi no Mura Noto Hanto in Shika town. Due to the influence of COVID-19 infections, Korean colleagues were forced to participate via online in last year. But in this year, they can participate in person for the first time in 4 years. 23 from Japanese electric companies and 1 from Korea have participated to the meeting.


Participants

In the first day of the meeting, Mr. Nomura Tomoyuki of the Nuclear Safety Research Association (NSRA)/ATC gave the presentation titled “ALARA Self-Evaluation Guide”, and Mr. Honda Takashi, manager of radiation safety department of the Shika Nuclear Power Station, gave the presentation titled “Overview of the Radiation Protection Plans of Shika Nuclear Power Station”. Then Group discussions about radiation protection plan in the nuclear power station were held, referring the “ALARA Self-Evaluation Guide” as ISOE standards.

On the second day, participants observed inside of the Service building, the Reactor building and the Emergency Response building of the nuclear plant. At some observation points, staffs of the radiation protection department of the plant explained the radiation protection efforts and there were lively questions and answers. After the observation, group discussions were held again to share/exchange information for good practices and recommendation.

On the evening of second day, participants visited Nuclear Technical Training Center of Hokuriku EPC. Participants observed control panel simulator, technical training materials and equipment, and other exhibits after briefing about the center.
