2006 ISOE Asian ALARA Symposium



The second ALARA symposium in Asia was held by JNES/ISOE-ATC on October 12, 2006 in Yuzawa,
Niigata Prefecture with the involvement of about 40 participants from Japanese electric utilities and manufacturers,
and from the U.S. and Korea.


Led by Mr. Mizumachi, the chair-elect of the Steering Group, the introduction of the current situation of EPRI Standard Radiation
Monitoring Program and the report of the situation regarding occupational dose at Japanese nuclear power stations
are presented. Then, the technologies for dose reduction were introduced by Japanese manufacturers.
Moreover, efforts for dose reduction were reported by Japanese and Korean utilities, and they ardently exchanged discussion.

“ALARA Activities at Ohi NPP”, which was presented by Mr. Akira Nakamura of Kansai Electric Co., Inc, was
recognized as the best presentation and he was invited to ISOE International ALARA symposium 2007 that is planed
to be held in Fort Lauderdale in the U.S in January, 2007.

On the following day (13th), they visited Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power station of Tokyo Electric Power Co.,
and observed unit 6, ABWR.
